Gertner research company estimates that Android, Google’s mobile OS is expected to be the second largest mobile OS in the world by the end of 2010. According to Gertner’s analysts, Android’s market share will be 17.7% by the end of the year leaving behind it RIM’s OS (17.5%), Apple’s iOS (15.4%) and Microsoft’s mobile OS (4.7%). Nokia’s Symbian is still holding the top position with over 40% market share. However, by the end of 2011 Symbian’s market share is expected to drop to 34.2% while Android is expected to grow to 22.2%. Gertner is estimating another decrease of Symbian and iOS by 2014, and by then Symbian’s market share is expected to drop to 30.2% in comparison to the Android -29.6%, RIM – 11.7% and iOS – 14.9% According to Gertner, mobile providers will reduce the number of platforms they offer customers and that the choice will focus on a number of small manufacturers and OS and the advantage will be on the side of the open systems – Symbian and Android in comparison to the closed systems by RIM and Apple. According to estimates the number of cell phones sold by RIM and Apple will grow but they will not succeed in increasing their market share. As a result the growth rate of their OS will be lower than that of the general market. -- Salam, Agus Hamonangan http://groups.google.com/group/id-android http://groups.google.com/group/id-gtug Gtalk : id.android Follow : @agushamonangan E-mail : [email protected] -- "Indonesian Android Community [id-android]" Join: http://groups.google.com/group/id-android/subscribe?hl=en-GB Moderator: [email protected] Peraturan Jual dan Kloteran ID-Android http://goo.gl/azW7 ID Android Developer: http://groups.google.com/group/id-android-dev ID Android Surabaya: http://groups.google.com/group/id-android-sby ID Android on FB: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=112207700729
