We are aware that this has been the case since May, but the fact is that the newer versions of the device come preloaded with Gingerbread 2.3.4, which was not rootable by regular methods. It seems that him, along with XDA members KyoceraEchoHax <http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4269280> and saridnour <http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=415093> have decided to try and take the helm of development on this device. Long story short, they have successfully rooted the device with GB. Now, there is more to this… Apparently, the Echo does not come with a recovery image on it for some reason, a reason that according to Kyocera goes something like this: *Thank you for contacting Kyocera Communications Inc. This email message is in response to your email if we can make a recovery image of the Kyocera Echo available over-the-air.* *The Kyocera Echo recovery image is not available because we don’t recommend modding and rooting of your smartphone’s Android OS.* This was an e-mail received by KyoceraEchoHax not too long ago. Well, thanks to the efforts of these devs and a few others, it seems that the lack of recovery for the dual screen phone is soon to be a thing of the past. They got a recovery image almost ready to go for the Echo, but it is missing the correct key mappings. If you have any knowledge that may be able to help these devs to get the ball rolling on this device to help resurrect it from a really bad start, please let them know.
