While this is not a full custom ROM, rooting in this manner can be optimal for those who would rather not lose any current apps, data, and settings. For those wondering, rooting using this method doesn’t increase your flash counter since you’re still using a stock kernel. Furthermore, you should still also be able to receive OTA updates in the future. Since the method uses ODIN to flash a firmware package, it applies to all possible variants of the tablet. However, currently zedomax had access only to the International GT-N8000 variant (European, Brazilian, Saudi Arabian, UAE) of the firmware. If your device is another variant of the Galaxy Note 10.1, you should hold off for the time being. However, zedomax has promised to make rooted firmwares available for other variants as they become available. To summarize, achieving root involves rebooting into download mode, connecting with your PC via USB, launching ODIN, loading the rooted firmware’s tar file into ODIN, and flashing it to your tablet.
