This is probably the reaction towards the new approval procedure of Google. Until now Mediatek phones mostly come with Android 4.2. The reason for this is that Mediatek is refusing to release their source codes. A lot of users of Chinese phones complained about missing updates for phones with Mediatek processor. But the waiting has come to an end now, as Mediatek will release an update for most of their chipsets including the MT6589, MT6582 and MT6592 to Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of April. Of Course it will be the task of manufacturers to release this update to their own phones, but we think most will do so, as it will definitely boost their sales.
