1591 isn _not_ controlling, and even section 3 of that document has seen better days. the authors of 2929, were unable to find technical necessity to constrain the values in the right-most label to contain one or more non-digits. one can, as john has, argue for taste, or invoke jon postel's practice, but those are not "international" nor are they part of the protocol. this bit, if it needs to exist, is something to toss _now_ over the fence to dnsop, for a bcp on bozo-nonos, like "don't create dns names that look a heck of a lot like a dotted quad (or a v6 addr either)" is this really necessary? imo, no. eric
