A UI that actually enforces the syntactic rules of the underlying service? Yes, indeed, that is truly a terrible idea. It would be much better to let users enter strings that are not valid so that some time in the future -- they can never be sure when -- the user's string will be found to be invalid and cause an error return to the user -- again, sometime later.
