This occurred because the original ccTLD NC election allowed two representatives from a single geographic region (Europe), which was contrary to ICANN bylaws. Your AdCom reached consensus on the point that we (the ccTLD) may lose opportunities for full representation, and, in fact are disenfranchised right now. To 'cure' this, we decided to fill the seat on an interim basis (until the next full election). Given that this 'job' requires a significant commitment in time and energy, partly because the candidate will have to come up to speed on what has gone before, and partly because the issues are so very important to the ccTLD constituency as a whole, the AdCom decided to use the following methodology in selecting the interim representative. 1. Persons interested in and willing to do the job are requested to nominate themselves. This will insure that only those persons who can actually make the necessary commitment are in the running. Those persons may make their intent known by posting to this list. Nominations will NOT be accepted from persons in the ICANN regions of Latin America or Europe. (We already have seats on the NC from those regions). 2. Each nomination requires a minimum of one 'second to the nomination'. Additional postings of support may follow, should anyone wish to post them. 3. A period of discussion will occur on the list. 4. A vote will occur, a simple, informal vote by posting to the list. One vote per ccTLD. 5. Here is the timetable for this activity self-Nominations posted to this list: 21 April to 27 April, 2000 period for posting "seconds to the nominations and additional support" 28 April to 4 May, 2000 period for discussion 5 May to 11 May, 2000 Vote 12 May to 18 May, 2000 Everyone on this list please use your best efforts to communicate this information to other ccTLD administrators who do not monitor this list on a regular basis.
