Idrisi-L : Transferring attributes of closed polygons to points within them

Hello all,

I am new to Idrisi but I gone through some of the tutorials.
I have a problem I hope to solve using Idrisi.
I have a map layer in ArcView-Shape format. Now I want to more or less digitize this layer as follows:

• Create a regular grid of points.
• To each of these points I wish to transfer the attributes of the corresponding area within which they lie. This gives me the possibility of answering the question, whether a point has a particular attribute or not.
• After this I wish to output the attributes of these points in ascii form (a matrix to be read from matlab). That is, my area is now represented by a matrix of regularly spaced points with for example 1 representing attribute present, and 0 attribute NOT present.

Who can give tips as to how I should proceed. I would be grateful.
