IN GLOBAL CARBON PROGRAM
THE WOODS HOLE RESEARCH CENTER

The Woods Hole Research Center has a position open for a Research Assistant
in its global carbon program with responsibilities in remote sensing and
mapping of Russian ecosystems.
Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology,
forestry, earth science, or geography. Required: Experience with processing
of satellite data and with geographic information systems. Preferred:
Experience with field ecology, forestry, land use, and data analysis. Also
preferred: Proficiency in Russian language and knowledge of Russian forests.
Responsibilities: Assist in determining the distribution and dynamics of
biomass in Russian forests using Landsat imagery and data from Russian
forest inventories. Assist with data management, library searches, reports
and publications. This is not a field work position.

Start: September. Salary: Low-mid 30s
The Woods Hole Research Center's emphasis in research is on ecosystems and
includes such global issues as biotic impoverishment, climatic change,
sustainable development, and the role of biotic resources in support of
contemporary civilization. Interest and activities extend to the
interactions of science and public affairs, nationally and internationally.
