This is an update on the status of the search for a permanent IETF Executive Director. The search firm interviewed a number of current and past community leaders as well as the interim IETF Administration LLC Executive Director to refine the job description and prepare for engaging with applicants. We then launched the formal search on 22 May 2019 [1], and the deadline for submissions closed on 21 June 2019. I am pleased to advise that we had a greater than expected level of interest in the role. The LLC Board, with the assistance of the search firm, will now review the full list of applicants, and from that develop a shorter list of potential candidates for further engagement and potential interview. Our current plan is to complete several rounds of interviews and then select the candidate prior to the end of August, but that may change slightly due to the availability of candidates during a potential August vacation timeframe. The starting date for the permanent ED will naturally depend on when we make a selection, as well as the availability of the selected candidate. Because of this, we have extended the contract of our interim IETF Executive Director, Portia Wenze-Danley, through at least the end of 2019 and continuing on a month-to-month basis as needed.
