The IETF Administration LLC recently asked for IETF community feedback on its proposals for collecting gender data and sharing pronouns [1]. Thank you to those of you who took the time to respond and provide your thoughtful feedback.
In response to the feedback received, we will be moving forward with these proposals, with some slight amendments and additional detail, as follows: 1. The registration system will have an optional private field for people to indicate their gender. This field will allow multiple selections from a set of fixed values. The data will be retained within the registration system, will not be published and will be used for contact and for the publication of aggregate data. This use is consistent with the IETF/IAB/IRTF Privacy Statement [2]. Information on privacy and use will be provided alongside this field in the registration system. 2. Datatracker will have an optional public field for people to indicate their pronouns. This field will be called 'Pronouns' and will allow either multiple selections from a set of fixed values, or free text. This field will be visible on Datatracker profiles and will be displayed in Meetecho next to an individuals name. Information on privacy and use will be provided alongside this field in Datatracker. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any further comments or to the [email protected] public list.
