Technical Summary

   The updates to RFC 5280 described in this document provide alignment
   with the 2008 specification for Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs)
   and includes support for internationalized email addresses in X.509
   certificates.  This document (once approved) obsoletes RFC 8399.

Working Group Summary

There was broad WG agreement to avoid the security issues arising from using 
A-labels instead of U-labels.

Document Quality

This document fixes important security vulnerabilities in deployed email systems
by removing some of the complexity around how internationalized email addresses
are encoded.
