The IESG has approved changing the status of the following document: - Improved Extensible Authentication Protocol Method for 3GPP Mobile Network Authentication and Key Agreement (EAP-AKA') (rfc9048) to Proposed Standard

EAP AKA’ in particular is widely implemented. The plan is to make a four-week IETF last call of RFC 9048 to change its status, but not its contents. This is what this last call announcement is about. Separately, draft-ietf-emu-aka-pfs will also go through another IETF last call (a two week one), after other updates suggested in the IESG review are folded in the draft.
