As agreed by the IETF Chair, IAB Chair and IRTF Chair, the IETF/IRTF/IAB Privacy Statement has been amended to correct a long-standing error.
The Privacy Statement noted the use of cookies as follows: > When you log into one of our websites or initiate an online transaction > through one of our websites then we may use cookies to uniquely identify you > during that session, to record your preferences and to simplify the > establishment of new sessions. If you disable your web browser's ability to > accept cookies you will still be able to browse the site but authenticated > and transactional services may not function. but it also incorrectly stated: > We do not use browser storage, for example flash cookies, or other local > storage. when IETF systems in fact use localStorage and sessionStorage, the browser storage features introduced in HTML 5, and have done so for some time. The incorrect line has been removed and the cookies paragraph corrected to read: > When you log into one of our websites or initiate an online transaction > through one of our websites then we may use cookies or HTML web storage to > uniquely identify you during that session, to record your preferences and to > simplify the establishment of new sessions. If you disable your web browser's > ability to accept cookies or HTML web storage you will still be able to > browse the site but authenticated and transactional services may not function.
