The deadline for nominations for the ETF Delegate to the ICANN 2025
Nominating Committee has been extended until Tuesday, 2024-11-05.
Please see below for more details.

-

The IAB (on behalf of the IETF) has been asked to supply a member to
the 2025 ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom). Suzanne Woolf has
recently filled this role for the IETF community and is ineligible to
continue; the IAB thanks her for her service.

The IAB would therefore like to ask the community for volunteers to
serve on the ICANN NomCom. The IAB will appoint one person for a two-
year term.

If you are interested in serving on the ICANN NomCom, please send a
short e-mail to [email protected] and [email protected] with your
motivation and information concerning your familiarity with the IETF
and ICANN. Alternatively, if you know of someone who may be a good fit
for this position, please send the name and email address by e-mail to
[email protected] and [email protected]. The IAB is looking for a diverse
pool of candidates. The deadline for nominations or volunteers is 23:59
UTC on Tuesday, 2024-11-05.

After asking for community input on the candidates, the IAB will select
from the available candidates. The IAB shall take into account
candidates' familiarity with ICANN and the IETF (including their roles
and processes), though the selected candidate will serve on the ICANN
NomCom on personal title.

The ICANN NomCom process itself is governed by the ICANN bylaws [1];
the relevant section can be found in Article 8.

In addition, each NomCom determines a number of its own operational
procedures, including the role of the NomCom in recruiting and
selecting candidates for ICANN leadership positions. Please see the
full NomCom job description[2] for more details.

Based on the experience of previous volunteers, the time commitment is
significant. The delegate should be able to join monthly
teleconferences. Note: The NomCom's workload will increase
significantly during the candidate assessment process. Conference calls
are held more frequently during this time as well (typically weekly and
the duration of the calls may last up to three hours). All NomCom
delegates should have the ability to travel to and participate in ICANN
Public meetings and NomCom meetings when requested. If travel is
restricted, then NomCom delegates will meet virtually.

NOTE: ICANN may cover travel and hotel costs for a pre-determined
number of days at each of the 3 consecutive ICANN meetings under
prevailing ICANN policies. For more details, please see the IAB
Statement on Liaison Compensation[3].

The 2025 NomCom will be selecting people to fill the following
positions:

  • Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors
  • One member of the PTI Board of Directors
  • Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee
(ALAC) – one each from the Africa region; the Asia, Australia, and
Pacific Islands region; and the Latin America and the Caribbean
    region
  • Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO)
Council – one representing the Contracted Parties House (voting)
and one representing the Non-Contracted Parties House (voting)
  • One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization
    (ccNSO) Council

On behalf of the IAB,
