Purpose: AI agents are software systems that typically converse via voice or chat with humans, and using large language models, process content, perform reasoning operations and take actions by invoking APIs. The ai-agent-protocols mailing list discusses possible areas for standardization related to AI agents.These include: standardized ways for AI agents to discover each other, to discover resources like APIs and documents, to converse with each other, and so on. The list might result in proposing a BoF, side meeting or IAB Workshop. The list will also discuss recent open source efforts in this area including Model Context Protocol (MCP) and discuss both protocol gaps as well as possibilities for IETF standardization.
