The purpose of the IETF Trust / IETF Intellectual Property Management
Corporation (IPMC) is to acquire, hold, maintain, and license certain existing
and future intellectual property and other property used in connection with the
administration of the IETF. More information about the IETF Trust can be found
at https://trustee.ietf.org/. More information about the IPMC can be found at
https://www.ietf-ipm.org/. The IETF Trust is currently restructuring to the
IPMC. According to RFC 8714, the IESG is required to appoint one person to the
IETF Trust, for a term of two years.

The IESG is asking for volunteers to be willing to serve as both an IETF
Trustee and IPMC Director for a term beginning in March 2026 - March 2028.
Depending on the timing of the restructuring, it is possible that IETF Trust
will already be dissolved by March 2026 and only service as an IPMC Director
will be required.

The IESG will consider volunteers willing to serve only as IPMC Directors.
However, preference will be given to those volunteers willing to serve in both
roles if the dissolution of the IETF Trust will not occur by the start of the
term.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION CRITERIA

A Trustee and Director ideally should be familiar with

- Copyright and trademark law (especially U.S. law).
- RFC publication process as described in RFC 9280 and related documents.
- IETF Intellectual Property Framework (e.g., RFC5378, RFC8721, TLP, Note Well).

NOMINATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

The IESG is making a public call for nominations. Self-nominations are
permitted. All IETF participants, including working group chairs are eligible
for nomination. Individuals seated in NomCom-appointed leadership positions
(i.e., IESG, IAB) and IETF LLC staff will not be considered. Persons who are
under consideration by the NomCom in the 2025-2026 cycle for the open IETF
Trust position are also welcome to apply. Please send nominations to
[email protected]. Please include the following with each nomination:

- Name
- Contact information
- Candidate background and qualifications

SELECTION

The IESG will publish the list of nominated persons prior to making a decision,
allowing time for the community to provide any relevant feedback to the IESG.

The IESG will review the nomination material, any feedback provided by the
community, and may decide to interview the candidates before making a selection.

CARE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

The following procedures will be used in managing candidates' personal
information:

- The list of candidate names will be published at the close of the
nominations period. A candidate that refuses the nomination will
not be included on the list.

- Except as noted above, all information provided to the IESG during
this process will be kept confidential to the IESG.

TIMEFRAME

The nominations period opens now and closes on Thursday, 2026-01-15 at 23:59
UTC.

The list of candidates will be posted shortly after the close of nominations,
and the community will then have four weeks to provide feedback on the
candidates to the IESG.

The IESG will consider the community feedback and make its decision.
