The IESG has approved the following document: - 'BGP Next Hop Dependent Characteristics Attribute' (draft-ietf-idr-nhc-07.txt) as Proposed Standard
This document is the product of the Inter-Domain Routing Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Gunter Van de Velde, Jim Guichard and Ketan Talaulikar. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-idr-nhc/ Technical Summary RFC 5492 allows a BGP speaker to advertise its capabilities to its peer. When a route is propagated beyond the immediate peer, it is useful to allow certain characteristics to be conveyed further. In particular, it is useful to advertise forwarding plane features. This specification defines a BGP transitive attribute to carry such information, the "Next Hop Dependent Characteristics Attribute," or NHC. Unlike the capabilities defined by RFC 5492, the characteristics conveyed in the NHC apply solely to the routes advertised by the BGP UPDATE that contains the particular NHC. Working Group Summary There was very good consensus on this document with several WG participants providing reviews and inputs from diverse backgrounds. There were two WGLC of the document due to the document split that was required due to IDR WGs need for implementations before publications. In both cases, there was good support for progressing this work. Document Quality This document specifies a new BGP attribute the Next Hop dependent Characteristics (NHC). There are implementations of this new attribute for NHC TLVs specified in other IDR WG documents. These implementations are captured in the document as well as IDR wiki. The document has gone through early reviews by RTGDIR, SECDIR, and OPSDIR. Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is Susan Hares. The Responsible Area Director is Ketan Talaulikar. _______________________________________________ IETF-Announce mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
