The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Stateful NAT64: Network Address and Protocol Translation from IPv6 Clients to IPv4 Servers' (draft-ietf-v6ops-rfc6146-bis-16.txt) as Internet Standard
This document is the product of the IPv6 Operations Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Mahesh Jethanandani and Mohamed Boucadair. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-v6ops-rfc6146-bis/ Technical Summary This document describes stateful NAT64 translation, which allows IPv6-only clients to contact IPv4-only servers using unicast UDP, TCP, or ICMP. One or more IPv4 addresses assigned to a NAT64 translator are shared among several IPv6-only clients. When stateful NAT64 is used in conjunction with DNS64, no changes are required in either the IPv6 client or the IPv4 server. This document obsoletes RFC6146. Working Group Summary The document has WG support to progress RFC 6146 to Internet Standard. No major controversy was identified. Some discussion occurred around the changes for RFC 6146 errata 4756 and 8416. The conclusion is that these changes are editorial/clarifying corrections and do not change the protocol behavior. In particular, errata 4756 clarifies the ICMP processing text: ICMP does not have Address-Dependent Filtering in the TCP/UDP sense, and the bis text preserves the meaningful BIB/STE processing. Therefore, this does not introduce backward-compatibility or interoperability issues. Document Quality Stateful NAT64 is widely implemented and deployed. The document includes an Implementation Status Section listing known implementations, including 6Wind, A10, Allied Telesis, Arista, Broadcom/VMware, Cisco, F5, Fortinet, Huawei, Jool, Juniper, Nokia, etc. Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is XiPeng Xiao. The Responsible Area Director is Mohamed Boucadair. Note to the RFC Editor Please add this document under STD 103. _______________________________________________ IETF-Announce mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
