Common sense dictates that a dictionary like Websters provides a common definition. It further dictates that technical authors as well as others should AVOID redefining commonly used terms, as that confuses the reader, since we are not computer programs who can easily honor local bindings. Further, this is not some some legalistic document, but a non-normative overview. And so if Eric has a problem with the use of the term reputation, perhaps he could sub in this common definiton and tell us if he *still* has a problem, what that problem is, and what wording would correct the problem.
