That was the intent.  In 2007, during an informal discussion between 
some of the participants of this WG, someone asked about "d=" and 
"i=".  The general view was to take the domain name from the "i=".

d= was more of a way to identify the DNS subtree which the public key 
can be retrieved.  There was also a long discussion on the mailing 
list which lead to "q=".  One or more participants argued for a query 
infrastructure that was not DNS-based.
