I doubt that any of those laptops could handle only ASCII. But the fact is, many experts prefer the power and flexibility of a text-based interface for many tasks, over what you call "recent advances in technology" that involve "smart" devices, mice, and bitmapped displays. "archaic" browsers are often more stable (crash less frequently), faster, and less bloated than more "modern" ones. Keith
