You're not insisting that the market be judge; you're insisting that IETF lend its support to bad designs in order to help mislead the market. Also, you're simply wrong that it's better to let the market judge things - that is, if you want things to actually work. When vendors insist on a level playing field - what they mean is that they want things slanted in a way that gives them an advantage.
