Actually, it is. The documents are issued by the IETF to facilitate public discussion. It's the only reason to have the mechanism.


It's about what encourages a more open exchange of ideas.

Having access to previous versions of a document often greatly facilitates discussion of it and later documents.

Having restricted access to the I-D archive was extremely problematic. Having easy access is extremely helpful to the community.
