I had a thought: (well, it's two thoughts really)

One:
There are some conventions/events that will always be run, and run
well, however there are other cons where the numbers of people
involved are dwindling (Vaticon) and they always need outside help.
Trouble is, the con director will always ask people s/he knows, and
that has limitations.

I'm sure there are people out there who would be willing to help
various cons/events with flyers, proof reading, running RPGs,
staffing on the day, etc, etc, etc...

The eternal question is where to store such information, and so I had
an idea! How about a database here on igaming where if there are
people who have experience in running events, big or small, that
would be willing to help out - they could sign themselves in, listing
what they have done / can do / will do / want to do? It might also
help some new gamers, and specifically gamers that are not in a
college club to get involved with running events. It could even be a
new column on the existing members' database?

Two: (a very similar thought)

I'm also sure that there is a lot of repeated tasks performed every
year - like getting costings on T-shirts, printing, etc, etc. I
provided the IGA with a list of possible Dublin venues and the
costings of them, no point in others making the same phone calls I
made. This is the sort of thing that should be pooled. But, it should
also be available publicly. How about another database here for
that sort of information, it would provide a starting point for
people running events and if they make calls etc and get updated
information they could update the database for everyone.

Why didn't I just set them up? I don't know how. And just because I
think it's a good idea doesn't mean it is! what do you guys think? Or
does anyone even read this list anymore?!?!?

Alternative idea - a "how to" guide for running events - step by step
guide. I *know* this would be a useful resource. Is it possible to
have such a document saved somewhere like this list so that all can
access it? I would be more than willing to provide some info for
this, and I'm sure others would too, but again with the technical
inability to save it somewhere that others can see it....

Off to figure out which box to stick this in on the forum now....
