I would agree that 3rd Ed. (and 3.5) is a superb system, at least from
a player's POV. It allows you to build very different characters, no
more generic wizards, fighters, clerics, etc. although you could play
them if you wanted to as well. I genuinely believed there was no
reason for a new edition.
Having said that, I like 4th Ed. I think it might have received a
better reception if it had been called something different, i.e.,
released as a new separate game, maybe Dungeoncraft or Wardragon.
I hope some 3rd party publishers continue to support 3rd ed. as I
intend to play that as my regular fortnightly/monthly Saturday game
for the foreseeable, but I do want to see how the new version plays
which is why we're going to play it at Gaelcon.
