Greetings from the Rebel County!
Next year's warpcon is a very special event, being Warpcon 20 and all, and we
have ambitious plans lined up for it.
In particular, we are planning on having a Very Large fantasy game, featuring
an assault and siege on Cork city. The board will be a X shape, 12 foot by 12
foot (the arms 4 foot wide), with the 2.5 foot wide Cork city in the center.
Cork will be defended by an alliance of Humans (empire and bretonians), Dwarves
and High elves, all resplended in red and white.
We are making inquiries early to clubs and players from up the country as it
were, if any of you would like to come down here and rape, pillage and
slaughter our women, villages and cattle, in any order you choose. Burn castles
and towns! Assault and lay waste to the city walls! Throw down our banners and
trample them into the mud!
...If you think you're hard enough, of course.
Ideally we are looking for armies painted in county colours (any county will
do, as long as you're not Cork). Right now all of the defenders are looking
like "good guys", so for fluff reasons it makes sense for the attackers to be
the bad guys (booo! hisss!), but if the coalition of assaulting forces wish, we
can have a bit of a civil war going (maybe we've finally declaired our
independance, or set ourselves up at last as the "real capitol".)
It's early days yet, and we're going to be playing a lot of sieges over the
next few months to see what works and what dosn't, how to make it a fair and
most of all fun fight, but the initial idea is:
Attackers will be 2k armies coming on the end of the arms of the X, 5 foot from
the city walls. There will be outlying castles with small cork garrisons at
hand. Attackers get "relentless advance" (a unit that is destroyed may come on
the board edge next turn to represent reinforcements). Once the outlying
castles are in enemy hands, the deployement range of the relentless advance
moves 2 foot closer to the city walls. Nearer the walls is a secondary
objective, taking this will move the deployment area closer still.
We will probably release full rules and even the map closer to the date (but
still with plenty of time to spare) once we've worked out ourselves what we're
going to be doing, but we felt like it was a good idea to give an early shout
out, in case people want to paint up an army in regional colours. Our plan is
to have Cork armies with actual cork banners and everything.
We're all very excited about this project, and will be spending the year
modeling up Cork landmarks as well as painting the armies. We figure we can fit
up to 8 attacking armies, though this figure may need to be revised.
