Why not use the information from finger.kernel.org?

The latest stable version of the Linux kernel is: 2.4.2
The latest beta version of the Linux kernel is: 2.3.99-pre9
The latest prepatch (alpha) version *appears* to be: 2.4.3-pre8
Must be much easier to parse, and the format shouldn't change...
