the hard disk with the I/O errors have been replaced. i tried re-setting the raid on the system, and even made a file system on it (reserving 1% blocks for root, and using an inoe per 32768 bytes instead of the default 1 inode per 8192 bytes). i can mount the file system and see it (its not empty, except for lost+found). HOWEVER(!) - during boot, i got the following messages on the console (right after msgs about swap being turned on): -------------------------------------------------------------- (read) sdc1's sb offset: 17775808 [events: 00000000] md: invalid raid superblock magic on sdc1 md: sdc1 has invalid sb, not importing! could not import sdc1! autostart sdc1 failed! bind<sdc1,1> nonpersistent superblock ... bind<sdd1,2> nonpersistent superblock ... bind<sde1,3> nonpersistent superblock ... bind<sdf1,4> nonpersistent superblock ... sdf1's event counter: 00000000 sde1's event counter: 00000000 sdd1's event counter: 00000000 sdc1's event counter: 00000000 linear personality registered mask fffffff8 rdev->size: 17781744 masked rdev->size: 17781744 new md_size: 17781744 rdev->size: 17781744 masked rdev->size: 17781744 new md_size: 35563488 rdev->size: 17781744 masked rdev->size: 17781744 new md_size: 53345232 rdev->size: 17775888 masked rdev->size: 17775888 new md_size: 71121120 md0: max total readahead window set to 128k md0: 1 data-disks, max readahead per data-disk: 128k -------------------------------------------------------------- the /mirror file system is currently mounted, so i've no idea what these messages mean, and why the mount operation succeeded. note that the new disk (/dev/hdc) has a different geometry then the old disk (2000+ cylinders, instead of 17000+ cylinders). if anyone is familiar with this, please handle it, and/or let us know how to handle this issue, should it rise now or again in the future. Ilya - i guess that after this problem is resolved, you could start the mirroring processes and refill the disk from scratch. i guess the basic directory structure will need to be remain (e.g. /mirror/web, /mirror/ftp....). Tzafrir - i made copies of /mirror/ftp/pub/Hebrew and /mirror/ftp/pub/israel - they reside on my home directory on iglu's server, under directory 'mirror-ftp-pub', so after everythign else is ready, you could put the info there. if anyone wants (and knows how to) put a proper msgs on iglu's front page, regarding the raid's status, please do so. i'll be available today either at 058-292629, or at 04-8344127. note that the cellular number will be with me only today - i hardly ever carry it with me. -- guy "For world domination - press 1, or dial 0, and please hold, for the creator." -- nob o. dy ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 14:04:48 +0300 (EET DST) From: guy keren <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Iglu disk maintanance today sorry for not notifying earlier.
