Due to the fact that the links web-let does not work (it may need an
upgrade), and because I'm not aware of anyone who uses it - I made its
directory inaccessible to the HTTPd process and commented out the link to
it from the LUG resources box.
The last update of MyThreads Links which is the back-end for the links
manager is dated October 16, 2001, which is not long ago, and quite some
time after we orignally installed it. I'll try to upgrade to the new one
when I have the time and the will.
Maybe it's maintainability has improved the last time I used it. However,
with the FAQ being very comprehensive as it is (kudos to Tzafrir), and
with Google, Yahoo and other such resources, I'm not sure what niche it
feels.
Does anybody volunteer to be our links maintainer? I'm doing enough
things around iglu.org.il as it is. Note that it requires only very basic
knowledge to operate and has a nice (albeit not very functional the last
time I checked) web interface. Knowledge of HTML and MySQL would help in
its long-term usability.
I once had a pipe-dream of writing my own links manager in Perl. I even
started writing some code. Maybe I'll work on it on the summer, but that
is not a promise.

Shlomi Fish
