I vote very much against this. Since the Linux kernel had no source
control system until a few months ago, all these old kernels are the
source control system. I make use of them, and having them accessible
on a fast mirror is very convenient.

Did anyone run a 'du' on /storage lately? specifically, on the kernel
mirror?

I'd say that's a good idea, but we need good guidelines what to mirror
and what not to.
