Hi,
Who holds the DNS settings for IGLU?
I've did a change on the BIND configuration on eskimo to have
mirror.iglu.org.il.
When I query eskimo, I get the result, but when I try to query Barak's
server, I get an error. Same for netvision DNS server.
It seems that:
1. Maybe I missed a step in the config.
Yes, you did.
2. ISPs in Israel don't really refer to the site DNS server
(iglu.org.il) to check new DNS addresses.
No, ISPs are ok. They refer to one of the defined mirrors (eskimo,
hamakor or beyond security).
Any ideas?
Yes. You need to update the serial field of the zone file after each and
every change you make. The current serial is "2004071300", which
probably means that the last change was done on the 13th of July, 2004.
Change the serial (first field of the SOA RR) to 2005081700, and reload
the zone. If you need to make another change today, change it to
2005081701, and so on. Like the bind man page says, we will have to
rethink this strategy somewhere around the year 4294, but I'm willing to
personally go around and change the configuration on all machines on the
Internet two years before this becomes a problem.
