just discovered an annoying thing at work. I post messages to the intranet people using Evolution, and most of them read with MSOutlookExpress (MSOE) and MSO (Exchange). when I post plaintext messages they read it fine, same goes when I turn on HTML (it correctly sends a Content-Type: multipart/mixed header, and attaches a text/plain copy and a text/html copy), and the client displays the better format of the two, per the RFC.
I usually switch OFF all HTML mails because I want to stay compatible (1-2 folks use mutt) and save bandwidth (plaintext is roughly 1/4 the size of a plain+html post). BUT, if I turn on GPG signatures, and keep HTML mail OFF, MSOE users will get an empty mail with a text attachment and a .dat attachment. VERY inconveniant. MSO shows it fine. (content is multipart/signed ) so to all Evolution users, and possibly mutt users, who use PGP/GPG signatures in S/MIME, be sure to switch on HTML mail. it sucks, it bloats, but some MSOE users will get your Email as an inconveniant Email attachment instead of body text. -- Best of three Ira Abramov ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
