My name is Robin Paul,
I am using Ubuntu Hardy. I own a
Microdia USB 2.0 webcam. I confirmed the same using the command lsusb
which returned the following result
ro...@robin-desktop:~$ lsusb
Bus 007 Device 004: ID 0c45:6270 Microdia U-CAM PC Camera NE878

I have tried my best to install the driver. The driver did get
installed( I suppose) but I am unable to see any video thru my webcam.
I did the following
First of all I dwnloaded easycam software. But the whole programme is
written in French and was thus worse than command-line. But after a
little difficuly i managed to install it.
When I ran that software, it detected my webcam as Microdia USB2.0
Webcam12. I tried to install the camera usin dat software but most
probably it wasnt able to. I cudnt understand the messages as they
were all in French. The reply was
" Drivers installe !". However I cud still click on the Forward button
and when I clicked on it, it showed "Installation Complete"
It also said " to test your webcam: Exectue -> Webcam (no spelling
errors from my side)
so I typed "webcam" in command-line and I got the message
ro...@robin-desktop:~$ webcam
reading config file: /home/robin/.webcamrc
video4linux webcam v1.5 - (c) 1998-2002 Gerd Knorr
grabber config:
size 320x240 [none]
input (null), norm (null), jpeg quality 75
rotate=0, top=0, left=0, bottom=240, right=320
when I plug the webcam out of the USB port it shows
ro...@robin-desktop:~$ webcam

that means Hardy has detected the webcam!.
I did seeonce a video of my self thru the webcam in Ekiga but it wasnt
clear .So, I restarted my comp but then I cud not see any video
again.
AFter that, I tried installing the microdia driver thru the recippe as
given on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=797715&highlight=microdia+ne878
However I got stuck in the last step
sudo insmod ./microdia.ko. I checked to see if there is any such file
in the microdia directory but I found none
ro...@robin-desktop:~$ cd microdia
ro...@robin-desktop:~/microdia$ ls

so I resorted to the post
http://groups.google.com/group/microdia/web/testing-microdia-driver-draft.
In this recipee, I managed to proceed till step 6, however when I
proceeded to step7 ,Ubuntu opened mplayer but all I cud see was a
green screen on mplayer. I tried to search what went wrong. I
installed libv4l-1.9 ruby ( as mplayer requires libv4l for JPEG
compression)
I also installed the ALSA kernel headers but I am not able to see any
video thru webcam.
I installed the Microdia driver permanently as given on step 7 but I
still cant see any video.
Please help.
Robin
