Question 1: How long have you been using... Bulk of the people have been using free OS for 1 to 3 years. ~6% have been using it for more than 3 years. Question 2: Occupation.. No school students (I'm surprised, I thought there was at least one)? Mostly college (I am guessing IIT) students (no surprise here). One other is "medical and technological professional". Question 3: Number of free OS(s) used. Most use 1 but it is interesting to see that there are ~25% people who use more than one (which would bring "expertise" knowledge of handling multiple OS). Question 4: Primary distro All responses were for Linux based Distros with different ones getting Ubuntu (and derivatives): 11 Fedora: 3 Gentoo: 3 Suse: 3 Debian: 2 Arch Linux: 1 -- (suprised?) * just curious, do we have any support for arch linux and suse users on the repository? * also surprised to see nobody uses Sabayon as primary distribution -- i thought there was some demand for it? * clearly Ubuntu is way ahead of other distributions Question 5: Secondary distro (since primary included, I'll subtract that from here, cf. I forgot to do +1 for Ubuntu here, I'll compensate for that) Arch: 0 CentOS: 1 Debian: 1 Fedora: 2 Gentoo: 0 Knoppix: 5!! Mandriva: 1 OpenSolaris: 2 RHEL: 1 Suse: 0 Ubuntu: 5!! * no surprise to see Knoppix as something people always keep with them/use. I am guessing Ubuntu and Fedora (may be even OpenSolaris) is used in labs? Question 6: choice of distro (too long and pointless with individual information about choice of distro but I'll list the most "influencing" [>=10] factors in general) Ease of use (daily operations): 12 Easy to find support (in terms of help/packages): 10 Easy upgrades/upgrades between versions: 13 Geeky: 11 It's Free (in all its glorious meanings)! 12 Powerful: 14 Reliability: 10 Security: 11 Stability: 13 * one other response: "stable without being stale" Question 7: Do you keep your primary distro up to date? Yes - 19 (86.4%) -- I am suprised with this number 'cause I still expected the internet connection to be non-conducive for frequest upgrades for hostellers? But we probably needed to better define what "up to date" meant. Did it mean just security upgrades or mindless upgrading (like I do everytime Ubuntu prompts me for it).
