i reverted back to linux because my courses here focus more on the linux kernel and its implementation details..
This is a fact of academic life today. I thought it would become confusing for me to manage my knowledge about 2 different systems. POSIX binds all *x systems. The kernel parts differ. Do keep FreeBSD 7.2 in VM and use it while playing (nothing official about it!). Alan Cox is both Linux & FreeBSD guru and the list of such people is long.
