In which case, you can manually add an icon on the Panel to link to the executable installed. As we have been discussing off-late, if you do a manual installation, you should keep track of the changes. Or, you can enable use of remi repository, and just installing firefox should give you the packaged Firefox 3.5.3. This should update your desktop menus.
