Actually, u dont need a new sound card. Almost all cards these days either have a 2 channel output but can pass on unprocessed 5.1 using s/pdif. In layman terms, find a cable that has a 3.5 mm jack at one end and the spdif jack at the other end that would go into your home theater. The laptop passes the unprocessed signal which is processed by the home theater at the other end. You can easily obtain the cable from the market.
