Idea is nice. but there are some ideological issues I feel (atleast
how i see it):
Are we not in a way removing the freedom to choose? Even if it the
choice is to choose proprietary stuff, I feel it should be the end
user's prerogative.
If there's only one format then no doubt I am forcing on the users and
restricting their freedom.
Also, till the proprietary "stuff" vendors support open formats,
sharing is a problem.
And let's say there are 2 or more open formats, so one more thing to
configure, one more step away from popularity. Till you get users you
won't get acceptance.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts.

now some "requirement" problems:
1. Like mentioned before conversion of media and large files is an issue.
2. Space problems - how do you tackle the rm(vb) format?
