A must do on Document Freedom Day mass convert all docs and ppts to odts
and odps respectively !!
To convert closed document formats to open document formats in bulk (I have
tried in Ubuntu with OpenOffice installed and AFAIK will work for other
GNU/Linux distros with OpenOffice installed ) :

for ppts
ppt2odp *.ppt (will convert all ppts in current dir to odp)

for doc
doc2odt *.doc (will convert all docs in current dir to odt)
