Then of course is the golden rule, if you don't want torrent softwares running on either machine to eat up your bandwidth its better to set a download limit in the software. So suppose you have a 256kbps (32 kBps)connection, set a limit of 8 kBps in the torrent software for download/upload. That way the remaining bandwidth is available for net surfing. If its not enough you probably need a higher bandwidth connection.
