live cd/usb--->mount ubuntu partition-->bind the partition dev and proc file
to that of live cd-->chroot into the partition-->grub-install --root
directory=/some mount point /dev/sdaX-->update-grub

this will install grub...the windows bootloader has overwritten the grub ..u
need to reinstall grub
