@Nilesh Nothing stops microsoft from imitating such an architecture. The only security enhancement from XP to 7 is increased number of clicks. Those don't add anything to security. And I've read somewhere that though linux users are less in number, linux systems contribute to a really significant amount of computational and network activity. That's because most of the servers run on linux.
@promod Its not the volume of the vulnerabilities listed there that should shock you. Its the number of ones which are not listed there. Believe me, there are loads. The ones listed there are ones which antiviruses look out for. But then even linux has almost as many vulnerabilities. Why do you think there are so many security updates every week? One reason I could think of is, its very easy to analyze a program in linux than in windows. The stealth strategies of a virus like obfuscation, encryption etc are also common to almost all proprietary programs, to prevent reverse engineering. But that's not the case with opensource programs.
