Hey,

I have one desktop computer with windows xp installed and recently connected
to BSNL broadband via this setup (Landline phone - Modem - *Router *- Lan
Cord - Desktop (Windows Xp)).
The engineer provided us with username, password and Portal id, and
installed a software in desktop that connects us to internet.

I also have a laptop that have both Windows vista and Linux version (ubuntu
Ultimate edition 2.7) installed. router has 4 LAN ports and wifi output.
Wifi has default settings and my laptop detects this with good network but
is unable to get internet connectivity at Firefox, internet explorer and
other browsers. This happens in both vista and ubuntu, so I guess it's not
ubuntu fight.
thn what it can be
??????

I am planning to install ubuntu UE 2.7 in desktop also, but don't know how
will I be able to connect it to internet (since there was some software
installed in case of windows xp) ?
I also want to change the default settings of Wifi (like putting a password
for access), currently thr is none, whn I will install ubuntu UE 2.7 in
desktop computer.

I tried till now
while LAN cord connected to my laptop (installing Gnome-ppp and putting the
settings like username and password, but it says the modem has some
problem), I also tried it using modem only but still same problem stays.
I tried connecting to default wifi in both vista and ubuntu but none browser
able to get internet connectivity.
I know abt how to put settings in section (Wired, wireless, mobile
broadband, DSL ) in ubuntu (through right hand top corner, network icon) and
if anyone knows any combination, plz update me asap.

Thnx for reading through and w'd greatly appreciate any help regarding this.

PS : viruses are in abundance in the desktop and computer shutdown
automatically after 1-2 hrs. I am going to see if I can get any information
from the broadband engineer coming soon abt the settings.

Cheers,
Puneet
