Ya actually I just read name, and replied it didn't strike me at all but I
am Sorry Sumantra Sir!
Hi Parin and Narendra - nothing to be sorry about. I am just another young
faculty member at IIT Delhi. Narendra, thanks for the sweet words - I am
sure I do not deserve this! This is completely an aside from the content
of the list, so I guess I will end it with this post: no more spam from me
on this. Many people get my gender wrong because of the `a' at the end of
it, and most of us family members have a good laugh over this. My first
appointment letter starts off, `Dear Madam, we are...'. There is nothing
Bong about my first name however (the surname, however is purely Bong :-),
and is a bit uncommon - it has two parts). Sumantra, as the Ramayana goes,
was King Dasharatha's Chief Minister, and his name was quite apt (as in
many epics and tales of yore), since it is a Bahuvreehi Samaas (Compound):
`su-mantraNaa dadaati ya:, sa:', or literally,
`one who gives good advice'.
I wonder what my parents had in mind when they named me thus - how did
they know that I would be infamous for inflicting advice
(unsolicited, usually) on unsuspecting people?
Parin and Narendra - keep the good work up!
Cheers,
