This has been pointed out again and again and i think there is an urgent need to fix this. What google and facebook are doing today is exactly similar to what microsoft did 20 years ago, create a lock in. And till date FOSS has been trying to fight the way of thinking that has been implanted into peoples brains by microsoft and unfortunately, it is very hard to change the way people think. For those who aren't aware, try diaspora. It's a social network that keeps your data with you. It's better to put in good habits right now than to fight bad ones later on.
