Could you share the exact model of the mouse? A mouse not being supported is rather unusual. I have personally never encountered this in the past 8 years of extensive linux usage on all sorts of hardware (some rather exotic). I would first check if the hardware itself is not damaged by using it on another machine. Alternatively you could use the linux mint live CD/DVD for a day or so and see if the problem solves itself. - If yes then the Ubuntu support of the hardware would be the culprit. - If not then the hardware itself may not be working ok.
