Are you going for XPS L501X? Just don't go for that if you can't live
without linux.

The  configurations above 501x i.e 701x,etc. are fine as there is no
HYBRID-GRAPHICS i.e. intel graphics chip on board alongwith nVIDIA discrete
graphics. But don't go for the configurations below it, which has both
nVIDIA and intel. At present it is not possible to get graphics working on
those configuration with Linux.
             You should check once more if your configuration has intel
onboard graphics alongwith nvidia gpu. Visit this url :

all your queries should be solved.

BTW, i'm using xps l501x-i5460m,4gb,nvidia 420m 1gb and am not able to get
nvidia card working in Ubuntu. Also the sound does not work in older
versions of ubuntu.
