Sorry for my rather short post earlier.let me explain in detail. >From the errors listed, it is clear that synaptic is unable to resolve the relevant hostnames for the repository sites. This could be due to your DNS setting not being correctly entered in the network setup.
an easy way to check this is to open the terminal and type the following - * ping google.com* If this does not give an error and google.com can be pinged then the DNS is ok and there is some other issue with your repo setup. If the ping gives an error then try the following in the terminal. * ping 8.8.8.8* if this also does not give an error then this means that your DNS is improperly set-up. Add a public DNS server (like 8.8.8.8) or some other DNS server ) to your network settings to correct this issue. If this also gives an error,then your machine does not have the required Internet access and therefore cannot connect to the repos For the list to assist better please elaborate on the following details - 1. if the machine has a direct connection to the Internet via a gateway (DSL or other)? 2. if the machine connects to the Internet via proxy ?
