I was faced with a similar dilemma some years ago. all CMS are content
management systems. You can probably make most of the common websites
in any of the CMS available. My concept has always been DIY (do it
yourself) and decide. I did the same at that time.
There is this website www.opensourcecms.com which provides demos of
various CMS to try out which refresh themselves periodically.
I have used both joomla and wordpress for some sites. They're all
wonderful to use as is drupal with some learning curve. I have found
the IRC channels for these also quite supportive. Plugin wise I have
seen that joomla has very good support. There is a plugin for almost
everything and is easy to use if the site is going to be managed by a
non-technical/lazy person. There is lots of documentation, books etc
available for the leading CMSs.
Suggest sitting a weekend with these different options on the site,
choose demos of any of the nearly 141 CMS on the site and see which
one you like the most. ALL can be used to make sites. choose what you
like. period.
